EDELRID BIRDLIME 1R 9.8mm Rope Dog Leash
Built from one of EDELRID’s most innovative technical ropes, the BIRDLIME 1R 9.8mm Rope Dog Leash combines German climbing-rope engineering with a radically different approach to materials.
The BIRDLIME 1R is the first synthetic climbing rope from EDELRID to be partially made from renewable bio-based raw materials. More than 40% of the rope is made from bio-based polyamide derived from castor oil, reducing the use of conventional fossil-based raw materials without giving up the construction and feel of a premium dynamic rope.
At 9.8 mm, it hits the sweet spot for a dog leash: substantial in the hand without feeling oversized. A high 41% sheath proportion gives the rope a robust exterior, while EDELRID’s Thermo Shield treatment creates the smooth, supple handling the brand is known for.
The color is unmistakable—a woven mix of pink, violet, blue and muted tones that looks completely different depending on the light.
Finished with TUENNE hardware and our modular construction, it becomes a rope leash built for city walks, trail miles and everyday abuse.

A Different Kind of Rope

By replacing more than 40% of its conventional polyamide with material derived from renewable castor oil, EDELRID reduces its reliance on fossil raw materials while maintaining the performance characteristics expected from a modern dynamic climbing rope.
We take that technical rope and rebuild it as a premium modular dog leash designed to stay in service—not become disposable gear.
Important: The EDELRID BIRDLIME 1R rope used to construct this leash is certified to UIAA 101 / EN 892 standards in its original climbing-rope form. The finished TUENNE dog leash is not climbing equipment and must never be used for human climbing, fall protection or life-safety applications.
